Thanks mate. I'll be blatantly honest... I just got lucky this morning. The extent of my planning is to check the weather forecast the day before - I had no idea I'd luck out and get the hazy fog thing. Turned up, and realised I had a nice set of conditions at hand.

I had to ask. I just read a first-person short story account of a guy who met Ansel Adams in the summer of 1943 while working in Yosemite National Park.
One morning, he got up before dawn and rode with Adams to a meadow below Halfdome and helped him lug an 8x10 camera and all the paraphernalia out in the field to set up for the shot and wait. Adams told him the day before the sky and background had been perfect but the light on the mountain was wrong. That day, the light on the mountain was right but they waited for the clouds to get just right. And they waited and waited. When the clouds didn't cooperate, they packed everything back up without ever exposing a single sheet of film. Adams then came back the next day and the next until he got his shot.

I have nowhere near the patience for that sort of behaviour. It might explain why Adams is one of the greats, and I am just some neville playing on the internet... among many other things.
